The HDD is connected through USB to the Fritzbox 7581, which is configured as a NAS. Most routers have the ability to connect a USB device to for sharing. The Fritzbox 7581 is basically a router with a few more bells and whistles so you should be able to setup sharing through it's GUI or you may have to setup firewall permissions.
